The “Garage Magazine” project was a personal experience for me. This project was created under the guidance of Rambod Vala and was dedicated to rock music and the history of rock bands. In 2020, this project started as part of my layout design project at the art school and provided an excellent opportunity for me to improve my graphic design skills.
One of the biggest challenges I faced during this project was aligning the visual identity of Garage Magazine with the theme of rock music. This challenge led me towards designing fonts, patterns, and graphic elements for this project.
In this journey, I conducted research on various types of fonts. I examined the characteristics of different fonts and graphic styles. From serif and sans-serif fonts to scripts and handwritten fonts, my research guided me towards Kufic script. Then, based on the principles of Garage Magazine’s visual identity, I designed a font inspired by Kufic calligraphy. This font, with consistent lines, high contrast, and 90 and 45-degree grids, perfectly aligned with the magazine’s theme.
The “Garage font” was not only a design tool but also an essential part of the visual identity of Garage Magazine. This font, inspired by Kufic script, became a unique design tool and, when combined with other graphic elements of the magazine, created a visually distinctive experience that was fully in harmony with the Garage Magazine theme.
