BLOWING INTO THIN MATTER

Blowing into Thin Matter, was the title of Maryam Taghavi’s exhibition at University Club of Chicago.
Within her new body of work, Maryam played with the materiality of Farsi letter-forms to point to what is being withheld and obscured beneath the surface. Her paintings consisted of a single sigil, an occult letter-form believed to cast a spell upon its viewer.

Influenced by her focus on the formal structure of talismans, I designed this motion announcing the opening of the exhibition. Studying the formal appearance of ancient talismans inspired me to lay out the information in the same visual direction as in the old manuscripts.
